Speech Team is an activity where students learn to perform speeches that they either write themselves or memorize from a script. Speeches can be performed individually or in groups, and the team typically competes at 10-12 Speech tournaments around the Metro area from November to March. Choose from events such as Poetry, Duet Acting, Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Impromptu, Persuasive Speaking, Oral Interpretation of Drama, Entertainment Speaking, Informative Speaking, and more!

Gayle Smith is the Head Speech Coach and has been teaching for twenty-three years and coaching speech for twenty years. She has been a member of the Nebraska Speech Communication and Theatre Association and certified NSAA judge for twenty-one years. “The most rewarding part of speech is seeing the growth in students... students start out nervous and unsure at the beginning of the season and five months later they are confident, well-spoken speakers and performers.”
